Thinking of using Java on a PC for a new project
Can Java i/f with a games port and/or USB joystick?
The alternative is to go with Windows APIs and C++ etc

Have a look at LWJGL (http://www.lwjgl.org/), this is one of the
libraries used by the Quake II port Jake2.
