Xmx, Xms and heap fragmentation

Thread view:

Hello,

I seem to remember of a post recently in a newsgroup (or was it on a web
site...), telling that there was a trend now to question the tuning of the
heap size with Xms=Xmx, as it would lead to memory fragmentation (preventing
heap shrinkage and leading to unexpected OutOfMemoryException's, IIRC).

Do you have information on this ?

Thanks.

Ben.

Replying to myself :-)

It's Paul Gover's reply to "WAS Out Of Memory, Heap Size" in the
ibm.software.websphere.application-server group.

It's the fourth article of the thread but Google didn't crawl it
(http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&th=ce635c992ad4649&rnum=
3).
