Big perfs problems with IBM/JVM 1.4

Thread view:
Jean-Louis Berliet - 24 Feb 2004 10:51 GMT
I wrote a simple application that generates a pdf file using jasperreport.
When i run this application with IBM jdk 1.3.1 it takes 10 seconds to
generate the pdf file.
When i run this application with IBM jdk 1.4.0 it takes 46 seconds to
generate the pdf file.
I tried differents OS : linux (redhat), aix 5.1 and windows 2000 but
generating the pdf with the IBM JVM 1.4 is always slower than the IBM JVM
1.3.1.

Any ideas

Thanks

I run Java 1.3.1 and recommend that our customers install 1.3.1,
because of the sad stories I hear from people running 1.4.

1.4.2 has a major performance increase for calculations (SSE & SSE2), so
from my point of view: use the latest, until you encounter the problems
yourself.

I think he meant the Sun 1.4.2 JVM.

Hello,

Where did you found the IBM JVM 1.4.0 ?

I seem to recall from posts in the ibm.software.websphere.* newsgroups, that
there is no IBM JVM v1.4.x available as a stand-alone product, but it's
rather bundled with products.
