Sorry, I guess I read it too fast and missed the Java part. Anyway, adding
"java" to the query string gives me a few projects that probably provide all
the functionality you need, but you'd have to do a bit of Java coding
yourself to get it exactly the way you want.
RabtPad:
http://rabtpad.sourceforge.net/
Looks like a word process. It's open source, written in Java, and has
modules for reading and writing RTF and HTML files. You could open and RTF
document and then save it as an HTML document.
Java2HTML:
http://www.java2html.de/
Converts Java source code to HTML for pretty printing purposes, I suppose.
Written itself in Java and open source. Can export to HTML, RTF, TeX and
XHTML. Probably doesn't directly supporting *reading* RTF though.

Hi, the first project is inactive. The second can only generate RTF; in
contrast, I'd like to create HTML from RTF.
The reason why I post to newsgroups is not that I cannot use Google
search, but rather that I have received informed help here, saving me a
lot of effort.

Probably. At least he has mistaken us for his cheap servants.
