GUI hangs during I/O Operation

Thread view:

Hi there

I have a JFrame with buttons and stuff to select the data I want to
copy in another folder. Clicking the button "start" generates a
JDialog with a JProgressBar, updated by a timer, and launches the copy
process. The problem is that if I use the JDialog together with the
JFrame, the timer won't start. In the second case where I removed the
JFrame and hardcoded the path, the JDialog with progressbar worked
flawlessly, because the timer started at the right time.

The constructor of the JDialog is being executed to the end. Timer
initialised by then, should have started, too. The JDialog window
appears but it's gray until the copy process is finished, only then
the timer starts and the think looks nice...

I tried out lots of things, including an own thread for I/O-operation,
and a own one for the GUI, things didn't get better.

I appreciate any help!
