Sneak Preview - SaverBeans screen savers..

Thread view:
Andrew Thompson - 23 Jun 2004 23:09 GMT
I have made an applet to provide 'screenshots' of
some of the screen savers that will be included
in the SaverBeans API.

<http://www.physci.org/test/ss/>
(Mine is 'StarZoom')

Most of them will be shown at JavaOne.

The SceensaverApplet is still very experimental
and some of the savers either fail to load,
or load but display incorrectly (though they
all work fine as screen savers).  Note -
BlackGlass is big, and it is there to show
how the applet *fails* to load it.

Otherwise..

Enjoy!

..and now also 'Human Rights'.

About 11 or 12 of the savers linked
in the page work within the applet.

I think that could be improved by having the text scroll vertically in
multiple lines, like the closing credits at the end of a movie, rather
than a single line scrolling horizontally.

It is open source.  [  Feel free.. ;-)  ]

I was considering (and playing with) that,
JEditorPane spat chips on the original HTML.
I cleaned up the HTML but was still having
trouble getting the JEditorPane scrolling right.
(I want to create an image of the JEP, then
translate it (for the movement) while squeezing
the top/bottom to literally represent a 'Scroll'..
another story. )

That is when I decided to go the easier route.
[ I wanted to get 'HumanRights' saver included
in the next Screensavers SDK, which it is. ]

Besides, this way you can get the articles
in random order, so it means the later
articles get a reasonable chance of showing.
Whereas it can take a fair while for a vertical
scroll down through the continuous document,
or horizontally scroll 'in correct order'
through the articles.

Thanks for your comments Dave.

I will soon be approaching local schools
and government institutions asking if they
are willing to install the saver on their
PC's.  It is important to work out the
hitches before then.
