Is Java3D a universal 3D web programming?

I am confused.   I heard about....

Java, Javascript, then JavaBean, JavaGenie, then recently tonight Java3D (demos
were nice!), and now this....Jun for Java...whatever.

Which programming language should I use to write a simple Java3D demo for my
webpage?   In other words, should I bother visual Basic?

Is Java3D and VRML3D still obsolete?  If yes, whats the new universal standard
then?  in other words, is there another 3D web programming out there that I
(we) might miss?

Can cgi-bin script, perl, whatever do "3D" like Java3D can?

I heard about JavaOS Deskop - is there such thing?  demo link anyone?

I am trying to learn and catch up the potential of Java3D before I plunge into
3D web programming.   I think Java3D is nice wonderful programming language but
I am not sure of its disadvantages (slow?).

I am learning how to write Javascript using "Book of Javascript: practical
guide to interactive webpage".

I am surprise:  there is no hint of Javascript dealing with Java3D or 3D object
in webpage.

Can Javascript (not Java) manipulate (not create) 3D objects?

I need examples of codes with texture maps on them.

Other than the word "java" in the name the two are not related. Java and
Javascript are two completely different animals.
