[ANN] Orion 2.0 Java Network Licensing Platform

Agilis Software   23 Aug 2005 22:08 GMTPage rating:

Orion Network Licensing Platform release speeds integration, provides
improved manageability, and supports large-scale 24x7 hosted licensing
environments.

Santa Clara, California, August 23rd, 2005. Agilis Software today announced
a major new release of the Orion Network Licensing Platform. Version 2.0
brings faster integration into vendors' applications and back-office
systems, supports million+ user populations with 24x7 operation, provides
strengthened management tools for administration, monitoring and reporting,
and strengthens security and privacy.

Developers on a tight product delivery schedule will appreciate Orion's new
high-level client APIs for Java and .Net applications. Engineers can build
Internet-based product activation and floating network licensing into their
applications in a few minutes by adding just one line of code. Automated
fulfillment and management of trial and production user licenses from back
office eCommerce and enterprise application systems is streamlined with a
comprehensive suite of back office integration API's and tools.

High-volume software publishers can benefit from Orion 2.0's million+ user
licensing capacity with 24x7 uninterrupted operation and system maintenance,
and support for administration of large-scale application installation
bases. Automated email alerts enable administrators to respond rapidly to
system problems, attempted security breaches, or to customers who may need
to add licensing capacity.  Orion's multilevel security model enables
vendors to optionally delegate administration and monitoring
responsibilities to resellers and / or end customers.

Orion includes built-in software asset tracking and business intelligence
capabilities.  Detailed licensing activity data is captured in its
relational database, from which vendors can generate graphs and download
reports on license usage, activation history, activity timelines and more
using a web browser or API in order to gain insights into how their software
is actually being used. Armed with this timely analysis, vendors can better
understand where to focus their engineering, marketing and sales efforts.

While Internet-based license activation offers convenience for the vendor
and end-user without risking abuse, it is ordinarily not available to
application installations having no internet access. Orion 2.0 adds a
further option to the existing web self-service solution for users with
disconnected systems: the Orion Proxy Server enables security-conscious
customers to benefit from automated activation over the Internet from
isolated internal systems via 'DMZ's.  The Orion Proxy Server's automatic
failover capabilities also provide high network and server availability as
well as a "server overdraft" licensing capability.

Software and systems vendors worldwide are using Orion to offer
Internet-based product activation, concurrent-user licensing, subscription
licensing and software asset tracking on a wide range of platforms.
